At the 2019 Teen Choice Awards, The Jonas Brothers are being honored for their evolution as a music group with the Decade Award. The Jonas Brothers were also nominated in 5 categories: Music Group, Summer: Song, Single: Group, Pop Song, and Summer Music Star: Group. The 2019 Teen Choice Awards air on Sunday, August 11 at 8/7c on Fox.

Fans are hopeful that the Jonas Brothers will make an appearance at the Teen Choice Awards this year, in spite of the fact that they are busy on their Happiness Begins tour, which kicked off on August 7 in Miami. The tour is named after their successful new album, Happiness Begins, which released in June; the tour is especially significant for the band because it is their first time touring together since breaking up almost a decade ago.

If you are interested in learning more about the tour and how to get tickets for a show near you, here’s what we know:

‘Happiness Begins’ Tour Dates & Locations

A post shared by Jonas Brothers (@jonasbrothers) on

The tour began in Miami on August 7 and is stopping at many stadiums throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico through December 15. Then, they will move their tour abroad to Europe at the end of January 2020; their last listed tour date is February 22, 2020 in Paris, France.

A complete list of their tour dates and locations, can be found on their website here.

Since they do not have a concert scheduled for August 11, it is possible that they will be able to attend the Teen Choice Awards and accept their honor (and possible category wins) in-person.

If you are interested in purchasing tickets for the concert nearest you, there are tickets for sale for each show via Ticketmaster. For each show date, there is also a “VIP” ticket option. According to LaneOne.com, those VIP tickets (at an added cost) include perks such as preferred entrance, ambassador support, and parking and uber credits.

What We Know About the ‘Happiness Begins’ Tour Setlist

The Jonas Brothers have evolved as artists with their latest album, but that doesn’t mean fans won’t be looking for them to perform some of their earlier hits during the tour. According to PopSugar, the setlist for the Jonas Brothers’ first show of their tour was as follows:

1. “Rollercoaster”
2. “S.O.S.”
3. “Cool”
4. “Only Human”
5. “Strangers”
6. “That’s Just the Way We Roll”
7. “Fly With Me”
8. “Used to Be”
9. “Hesitate”
10. “Can’t Have You” (Fan Request Song)
11. “Jealous” by Nick Jonas
12. “Cake by the Ocean” by DNCE
13. “Comeback”
14. “When You Look Me in the Eyes”
15. “I Believe”
16. “Mandy”/”Paranoid”/”Got Me Going Crazy”/”Play My Music” Medley
17. “Hold On”/”World War III”/”Tonight” Medley
18. “Runaway” (Special Performance With Sebastián Yatra, Daddy Yankee, and Natti Natasha)
19. “Lovebug”
20. “Year 3000”
21. “Burnin’ Up”
22. “Sucker”

While this is a good outline of what to expect if you see them in concert during this tour, don’t expect this to be the exact set for every show. It is customary for artists to mix up their setlists throughout their tour. Furthermore, it is possible that their “fan request song” will change based on the city they’re in, as well as the musical guests that join them up on stage for the “special performance” portion of the night.

Patricia Wulf: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Patricia Wulf is a retired opera singer and is one of the multiple women who is accusing the legendary Placido Domingo of sexual harassment. Wulf, 61, was the only woman who gave her name and allowed herself to be photographed for the Associated Press’s bombshell feature that dropped on August 13.

In total, nine women, eight fellow singers and one dancer, are accusing Domingo of inappropriate behavior. The women allege that Domingo sexually harassed them while offering them jobs. Other than the nine women, others came forward discussing their discomfort at Domingo’s alleged behavior. The report mentions that Domingo’s actions were an “open secret” in the world of opera.

Domingo has responded to the story in a statement that reads, “The allegations from these unnamed individuals dating back as many as 30 years are deeply troubling, and as presented, inaccurate. I recognize that the rules and standards by which we are and should be measured against today are very different than they were in the past. I am blessed and privileged to have had a more than 50-year career in opera and will hold myself to the highest standards.”

When asked about her motivations for coming forward, Wulf said, “I’m stepping forward because I hope that it can help other women come forward, or be strong enough to say no.”

Here’s what you need to know:

1. Wulf Says Domingo Was Relentless in His Pursuits of Alleged Victims

Placido Domingo now

GettyPlacido Domingo presents Giovanna d’Arco at the Royal Theater on July 12, 2019 in Madrid, Spain.

Wulf told the Associated Press that Domingo was relentless in pursuing women. Wulf told the AP, “Every time I would walk off stage, he would be in the wings waiting for me. He would come right up to me, as close as could be, put his face right in my face, lower his voice and say, ‘Patricia, do you have to go home tonight?’” Wulf’s response was, “I would say, “Yes! I have to go home tonight.” And I would walk away.

Wulf said that she encountered Domingo at the Washington Opera House in 1998 where Domingo was the artistic director. Wulf, said, through tears, “You have to understand that when a man that powerful — he is almost like God in my business — when he would come up that close and say that the first thing that goes through your mind is ‘What?!’” Wulf said that during an entire run at the Washington Opera House, she was constantly accosted by Domingo. Wulf said that she would regularly wonder if she had ruined her career by rebuffing Domingo’s advances.

Wulf said that she resorted to hiding behind pillars in attempts to hide from Wulf but “he would still find a way to get me.” Wulf also said that she would hide in her dressing room, peaking out to see if Domingo was around before leaving. One male colleague told Wulf that if she went public with her allegations, she would be fired, not Domingo. Wulf said that she had not been physically assaulted by Domingo but that his constant words “affected the way [Wulf] dealt with men for the rest of my operatic career and the rest of my life.

2. Wulf Is Married to Sculptor Richard Lew

Wulf is married to sculptor Richard Lew. The couple has two children together. Lew is mentioned in the AP report as attending a performance after-party. During that party, Wulf said that Domingo greeted her with a kiss and whispered in her ear, “I would like to meet my rival.” Lew told the AP that he eventually stopped asking his wife if Domingo had behaved inappropriately, he could tell from how she looked that it had happened.

Wulf and her husband live on a 33-acre farm in Virginia. The couple’s daughter is a medical student in Chicago while their son studies at Virginia Tech. In 2016, Lew did an exhibition of his photography. Some of those photos were taken during his honeymoon in Mexico with Wulf.

3. Wulf Sang as a Mezzo Soprano

Patricia wulf

Wulf was a mezzo-soprano singer during her long career. A 2018 bio says that Wulf began as a lyric soprano before switching to higher mezzo-soprano roles. That bio notes that Wulf sang with Placido Domingo “multiple times.” Wulf said that her favorite role is Mimi in La Boheme. The profile ends with a quote from the show reading, “There is nothing in the world quite like dying on stage.”

A February 1997 review of one of Wulf’s performances at the Washington Concert Opera in the Washington Post referred to Wulf as sounding “sounding tight up high during the opening aria from Strauss’s “Ariadne auf Naxos,” but warmed up as the evening unfolded and was a delicious drunk in “Ah, quel diner” from Offenbach’s “La Perichole.””

In 2004, Wulf released an album of Christmas standards with her friend Amanda Powell. A bio released upon the release of that album said that Wulf got her start at the Washington Opera House in 1997 and has also performed at the Kennedy Center in New York City. The bio says that Wulf is a supporter of Healthy Families, a charity that helps single mothers complete college education, and is an in-demand teacher maintaining a private studio at the Piedmont School in Virginia. Among Wulf’s more famous students was Tona Brown.

4. Wulf Is Now a Real Estate Agent in Virginia

The Associated Press reports notes that the other eight of Domingo’s accusers did not want to use their names as they still work in the opera world. According to Wulf’s LinkedIn page, she now works primarily as a real estate agent in Virginia. Wulf writes of her philosophy as believing “in absolute honesty, complete and full disclosure and I promise to give you exceptional service at every turn throughout your home buying and selling experience.”

Wulf notes on her LinkedIn page that she has worked with Placido Domingo, as well as Mirella Freni. Wulf writes, “While I miss the stage, lights, rehearsals, and most of all…dying on stage, I am very happy with real estate and the flexibility it gives me.”

Wulf received a Bachelor of Music degree from Catholic University in 1987 and also studied for a time at Kent State in addition to studying singing privately for 12 years in D.C. and New York City.

5. Placido Domingo Has Been Married to His Wife Marta Ornelas Since 1962

“Lover” Song Meaning: Fan Theories, Hidden Easter Eggs, & More

“Lover” by Taylor Swift is the fourth track to be released leading up to her seventh studio album, which is named after this track. The single was released on midnight, August 16, to the great joy of the Swiftie universe. The album contains 18 tracks in total, and will be released on August 23.

The song Lover is undoubtedly a love song, as the title implies. In a recent Vogue article, Swift said of the song, “This has one of my favorite bridges. I love a bridge, and I was really able to go to Bridge City.” Vogue interviewer Abby Aguirre described the song as “a romantic, haunting, waltzy, singer-songwritery nugget: classic Swift.”

Swift also said that Lover as an album “might be” the best album she’s ever made. “There are so many ways in which this album feels like a new beginning,” she said. “This album is really a love letter to love, in all of its maddening, passionate, exciting, enchanting, horrific, tragic, wonderful glory.”

Here are the lyrics to Lover:

We could leave the Christmas lights up til January

And this is our place

We make the rules

And there’s a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you dear

Have I known you 20 seconds or 20 years?

[Chorus]

Can I go where you go?

Can we always be this close forever and ever?

And ah, take me out, and take me home

You’re my, my, my, my

Lover

We could let our friends crash in the living room

This is our place, we make the call

And I’m highly suspicious that everyone who sees you wants you

I’ve loved you three summers baby, but I want them all

[Chorus]

Can I go where you go?

Can we always be this close forever and ever?

And ah, take me out, and take me home

You’re my, my, my, my

Lover

Ladies and gentleman will you please stand?

With every guitar string scar on my hand

I take this magnetic force of a man to be mine

Lover

My hearts been borrowed and yours has been blue

All’s well that end’s well to end up with you

Swear to be over-dramatic and true

To my lover

And you’ll save all your dirtiest jokes for me

At every table, I’ll save you a seat

Lover

Can I go where you go?

Can we always be this close forever and ever?

And ah, take me out, and take me home

You’re my, my, my, my

Lover

Here’s what you need to know:

The Hidden Meaning of the Song Lover

Lover is, on its surface, a pretty straight-forward love song. Within the song, Swift sings about being with the person that she wants to be with for the rest of her life with a “magnetic man”, one who she’s been with for the past three summers.

Swift deploys a sense of longing and contentment throughout the song, where she feels both confident in the longevity of the relationship and still feels the need to ask her lover if she can go wherever he goes.

Of course, one of the most hidden meanings of the song might have to do with Swift’s marital status. Fans immediately set to speculating over whether the song’s true meaning comes in the form of an announcement of sorts: over her potential engagement or even secret marriage.

Fans were eager to interpret the meaning for themselves as soon as the song came out. “It’s a Joe song for sure,” one user tweeted.

Easter Eggs & Fan Theories Within Lover

One of the Easter eggs within Lover is the lyric about Christmas:

We could leave the Christmas lights up til January

In ME!, Swift stands next to a Christmas tree at one point, which has led many fans to speculate about the involvement of the holiday in this song. What’s more, the verified account Taylor Nation tweeted a series of emojis including a Christmas tree emoji in the tweet leading up to this song.

Another Easter Egg seems to be in her reference to herself, where she talks about the “guitar string scars” on her hand. Swift is known for having an autobiographical flair within her songwriting, and Lover appears to be no different.

Many fans wondered if this song is Swift’s way of saying she’s engaged. After all, she includes the lyrics:

“Ladies and gentleman will you please stand?

With every guitar string scar on my hand

I take this magnetic force of a man to be mine”

It’s also worth noting that the heart in the lyric video for the song is set to the theme of the Union Jack, the national flag of England.

What Is Cornelia Street? Taylor Swift Named a Song After It

$

Taylor Swift released the official tracklist for her seventh studio album, Lover, on August 16. The upcoming album will release on August 23 and includes 18 tracks, one of which is mysteriously titled Cornelia Street.

Cornelia Street will be the ninth song on the album, according to Swift. And fans have offered up a number of interesting theories regarding what type of significance this street holds, if it is in fact a real place.

The other songs that have held the place of track number nine in previous Swift albums include: You’re Not Sorry, Enchanted, Wildest Dreams, Stay Stay Stay, Should’ve Said No, and Getaway Car.

Here are all of the theories around the most mysterious track on Lover:

Swift & Boyfriend Alwyn Have a Cornelia Street Connection

Swift has left a number of Easter eggs in her music related to her multi-year relationship with British actor Joe Alwyn. Some fans have speculated that Cornelia Street is connected to their relationship in some way.

A particularly sleuthy fan did some research and found a Cornelia Street in the town where Swift went to high school, as well as in London, and in New York. Of course, Swift has a different connection to all of those places.

Other fans have speculated that there’s a bigger connection to the Cornelia Street in North London than anything else, because Alwyn grew up in North London. As a result, it’s likely that Swift has spent a good amount of time in the area.

Cornelia Street Is Connected to Swift’s Time in New York

Many fans who claim to have gone to the Secret Sessions claim that Cornelia Street is definitely connected to Swift’s time in New York City. After all, Swift rented an apartment on Cornelia Street.

Specifically, Swift stayed at 23 Cornelia Street; the front of the building can be seen below.

One fan made a big connection back to Reputation, tweeting, “Did she really take a Getaway Car to Cornelia Street?!!!”

This would certainly be a romantic twist, as Getaway Car is all about Swift running away from a failed relationship.

It’s worth noting that the Cornelia Street Cafe was a well-known music spot in New York City that recently closed. It’s fully possible that Swift has spent intimate time there, or even performed to a small audience there in the past.

Still other fans have noticed that the street Swift walks down in the music video for ME! looks quite a bit like the Cornelia Street in New York City.

“Ok but this scene in the ME! music video is a total Easter egg for Cornelia Street!!” one user tweeted. “It looks so similar to the street in NYC.”

It’s also worth noting that the track is over five minutes long, which harkens back to the style of music Swift championed in her albums Red and Speak Now.

It only adds to the hype that countless fans who attended Secret Sessions for the album are claiming Cornelia Street to be their favorite song on the album.

After Swift released the tracklist, one fan tweeted, “Now I can finally say that Cornelia Street is my favorite f*cking song on Lover because the tracklist is out…I can’t wait until the 23rd”

Another tweeted, “OKAY CORNELIA STREET HAD THE BEST F*CKING STORY BEHIND IT IN MY OPINION LIKE WHEN SHE EXPLAINED WHY SHE WROTE IT AND EVERYTHING…. THAT SHIT HURTED IUSISIS”

What Time Will Taylor Swift’s ‘Lover’ Be Released?

Taylor Swift’s seventh studio album Lover is set to be released at 9 p.m. PST on Thursday, August 22, or midnight EST on Friday, August 23, depending on your time zone. If that is too late for you to stay awake, you can stream and listen to it at your convenience.

Generally, albums become available around midnight EST on streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify. This has been the case for Swift’s previous releases, 2014’s 1989 and 2017’s Reputation. On occasion, these platforms will throw a curveball at listeners.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Lover’ Will Be Released at Midnight ET on Friday, August 23

Take Kanye West’s 2018 album Ye for example. It was originally scheduled for release at midnight on June 1, but it wasn’t made available until the following afternoon. A similar thing happened with Chance the Rapper’s recent album The Big Day. While it was slated for release at midnight EST, it wasn’t released on streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify until the afternoon of the next day.

Swift has been teasing the release of Lover for several months. When she announced the release date on Instagram, she also talked about the sonic direction of the album, and how it will differ from the darker-themed Reputation. “I’ve been so, so, so honored,” she said. “This album, in tone, it’s very romantic. Not just simply thematically, like it’s all love songs or something. The idea of something being romantic…it doesn’t have to be a happy song. You can find romance in loneliness or sadness or going through things in your life… it just looks at those things through a romantic gaze.”

Swift Said That the Album Is ‘Romantic’ In Tone & a Departure from Her Last Release

The pop superstar also talked about the recent spats she’s had with the likes of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, which led many fans to deem her “cancelled” or say that she was past her prime. “A mass public shaming, with millions of people saying you are quote-unquote canceled, is a very isolating experience,” she admitted. “I don’t think there are that many people who can actually understand what it’s like to have millions of people hate you very loudly.”

“I realized I needed to restructure my life because it felt completely out of control,” Swift continued. “I knew immediately I needed to make music about it because I knew it was the only way I could survive it. It was the only way I could preserve my mental health and also tell the story of what it’s like to go through something so humiliating.”

Swift also said that Lover is her favorite album to date. “There are so many ways in which this album feels like a new beginning,” she eagerly revealed. “This album is really a love letter to love, in all of its maddening, passionate, exciting, enchanting, horrific, tragic, wonderful glory.”

Donald Trump & Michael Jackson: What Is the History of Their Friendship?

During Thursday’s press conference about a “major announcement” relating to Michael Jackson’s legacy, Raymone Bain was asked about Jackson’s relationship to President Donald Trump. When asked if she would enlist Trump’s support when establishing the “MJ Legacy Foundation,” the pop legend’s former publicist reflected on Jackson and Trump’s great friendship.

According to CNN, Michael Jackson lived on some of Donald Trump’s properties in his lifetime; after Jackson died, Trump said “You know when Michael Jackson died, I knew him very well, everybody was talking about Michael Jackson, but they didn’t know him.”

Trump Defended Jackson’s During His Life & After His Death

In a phone interview with CNN’s Larry King following Jackson’s indictment, Trump targetted Jackson’s mother, Katherine Jackson, in defense of Michael. “She’s had plenty of experience at going after people and she goes after him viciously and violently and I saw a story and I read another story about some of the things she’s done and I don’t believe it.” After the interview, King said that he was surprised that Trump was so defensive of Jackson, before adding “good for Donald, you know, we do believe in innocence in this country, hopefully.” According to The Telegraph, Katherine stood by her son’s innocence, and said of the 2005 trial “All his life he had to go through stuff like this and it was trying on him.” It is unclear what Trump was referring to when he made those comments about what Katherine’s “done.”

In an on-camera interview with Access, Trump spoke about Jackson living in his building, saying “He lives in the building and he’s been a total gentleman and we’ve never seen anything like what we’re reading about.”

Trump’s support of Jackson and his legacy continued years after his 2009 passing. In April 2015, using the hashtag “#FriendlyFriday,” Donald Trump tweeted “Michael was very misunderstood – a great talent.” During the press conference, Bain encouraged viewers to use the hashtag “#MichaelJacksonNewBeginning,” but at the time of publication Trump had not commented on the press conference nor his inclusion in some of Bain’s comments.

During her press conference, one of the celebrities who Bain thanked for their support of Jackson’s legacy was Kanye West, who has made his support of and friendship with Trump public since the president’s 2016 campaign.

Trump Was Called Out by Jermaine Jackson for ‘Name-Dropping Michael’

According to ABC News, Trump also talked to CNN’s Anderson Cooper about Michael Jackson, whom he said he knew very well. Of his legacy, he said “He was an unbelievably talented guy. He lost tremendous confidence because of honestly bad, bad, bad surgery,” adding “Believe it or not when you lose your confidence in something, you can even lose your talent.”

Jermaine Jackson, Michael’s brother and Jackson 5 bass player, was unhappy with Trump’s comments. He took to Twitter to express his disapproval, writing “Name-dropping Michael don’t make you cool and won’t win you votes. Especially when using botched facts.” In a second tweet, he continued: “‘Friends’ don’t pay tribute by peddling b.s. theories about Michael’s ‘loss in confidence’. This fool Trump needs to sit down.”

The Full Track List for ‘Lover’

While the track list was officially released on August 16, below is the exact order for which the new songs on Lover will be placed on the record. In an interview with Zach Sang, the singer described her seventh studio album. “There isn’t ever one song that could sum up what the album is, but I knew that this one felt like, it felt like a celebration— it felt like something that could make you feel good, and like, I just want that right now for people, and I want to feel that way when I perform it,” she said. “I wanna feel good and positive and hopeful. And I think that a song is kind of like a mantra if you think about it. If you get a song stuck in your head, that’s the message you’re telling yourself— whether it’s intentional or not, whether it’s conscious or not.”

Swift first teased the album’s release at the top of the year, when she began uploading cryptic images to Instagram. She confirmed the album on June 13, along with the release of the lead single “Me!” featuring Brendon Urie. She’s released several additional singles since, including the aforementioned “You Need to Calm Down” and the title track. Check out the full tracklist below, which includes songwriting and production from Jack Antonoff and a guest feature from the Dixie Chicks.

1. “I Forgot That You Existed”
2. “Cruel Summer”
3. “Lover”
4. “The Man”
5. “The Archer”
6. “I Think He Knows”
7. “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince”
8. “Paper Rings”
9. “Cornelia Street”
10. “Death by a Thousand Cuts”
11. “London Boy”
12. “Soon You’ll Get Better” (featuring Dixie Chicks)
13. “False God”

15. “Afterglow”
16. “Me!” (featuring Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco)
17. “It’s Nice to Have a Friend”
18. “Daylight”

During a chat with Entertainment Weekly, Swift talked about the meaning of the album title. “[It’s] based on something that has a nice ring to it and has a theme,” she said, “[like] planning a prom or something.” She also revealed that the original album title was Daylight, after the closing track, but that she ultimately felt that Lover fit the album’s theme better.

Swift told that the album will be centered around romance. “This album, in tone, it’s very romantic. Not just simply thematically, like it’s all love songs or something,” she explained. “The idea of something being romantic…it doesn’t have to be a happy song. You can find romance in loneliness or sadness or going through things in your life… it just looks at those things through a romantic gaze.” She likened Lover to an “open, free, romantic, whimsical place,” whereas her last album, Reputation, was “all cityscape, darkness, full swamp witch.”

Lover Bonus Tracks: Are There Any Surprise Songs on Lover?

There are eighteen tracks on the Lover album in total. However, there are no Lover bonus tracks confirmed. In the past, Swift has surprised her fans with a number of “bonuses” when they purchased her physical albums, but it’s not clear if there will be extra songs available on the Lover disc.

Many of Swift’s albums have had bonus tracks in the past. 1989 had three bonus songs (Wonderland, You Are in Love, and New Romantics, the latter of which went on to become a single) as well as three voice audio recordings by Swift.

Red‘s “Deluxe Edition” had six bonus tracks: The Moment I Knew, Come Back Be Here, Girl at Home, Treacherous (Original Demo), Red (Original Demo), and State of Grace (Acoustic Version).

Fearless also had bonus tracks: Untouchable, Come in With the Rain,  SuperStar, Forever & Always (piano version), and The Other Side of the Door. And the Speak Now album had three bonus tracks: Superman, If This Was a Movie, and Ours.

The deluxe edition of Swift’s self-titled debut album also had three bonus tracks: I’m Only Me When I’m With You, Invisible, and A Perfectly Good Heart.

Reputation was the only album in her career that didn’t include any deluxe or bonus tracks. Until Lover, that is.

However, there are still a few benefits to buying the Lover album as a physical copy. Here’s what you need to know:

There Are No Bonus Tracks on Lover, But Fans Can Read Some of Swift’s Old Journals Instead

As she’s done in the past, Swift is partnering with Target to offer exclusive album packages with various “bonuses” for her fans, though sadly those bonuses don’t confirm any new tracks.

The four deluxe versions of Lover include the following, according to a press release by Target: “Each one has 18 songs along with a collection of unique content from Taylor that she will reveal herself soon. Plus, there are two bonus audio memos from Taylor’s songwriting sessions in each version.”

So there are bonus audio memos, likely similar to the ones she offered fans in her 1989 album. It’s worth noting that Swift’s album is the longest of any of the albums she’s ever created, track-wise, and excluding some of the deluxe versions of albums. So maybe she just decided to put all of the songs in on the “regular” album, rather than withholding some of the tracks to turn into bonuses for a deluxe album.

If Swift does include bonus tracks as a surprise, one fan offered up a pretty savvy theory on Twitter, following the release of the Lover music video:

Attaching two screenshots of the board game Swift and co-star Christian Owens are playing in the video, the fan tweeted, “19 on the dice? Is there a bonus song??? Breakable Heaven?”

Again, there’s no confirmation that “Breakable Heaven” is anything. However, knowing Swift’s love of giving her fans Easter eggs and making every little aspect of her videos significant, it’s likely that the phrase is, at the very least, a song lyric within another track.

Who Is Taylor Swift’s Mom Andrea Swift?

Taylor Swift is set to release her new album Lover. She’s said that it’s her best body of work yet, and singled out one song in particular for being one of her most personal compositions. She told Entertainment Weekly that the song “Soon You’ll Get Better” is dedicated to her mother Andrea Swift and her battle with cancer. Read on to learn more about Swift and her relationship with her mother.

Swift said that “Soon You’ll Get Better” was “really, really hard to write,” and there was a family discussion as to whether a song that intimate should find a place on the album. “We as a family decided to put this on the album, it’s something that I am so proud of,” she said. The lyrics to the song were uploaded by Genius, but they’ve since been taken down.

Swift Has Dedicated a Song on Her New Album to Her Mother’s Cancer Battle

Let the games BEGIN.

A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) on

Andrea, 61, was first diagnosed with cancer in April 2015. Swift broke the news on her Tumblr, where she wrote, “The results came in, and I’m saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer.” Swift stayed mostly quiet about her mother’s health after the post, and never definitively told fans that she was in remission. She broached the subject a second time in a piece she wrote for Elle Magazine in March 2019.

When asked about the biggest concerns in her life, the pop star revealed that her mother’s cancer had returned. “I’ve had to learn how to handle serious illness in my family. Both of my parents have had cancer, and my mom is now fighting her battle with it again,” she wrote. “It’s taught me that there are real problems and then there’s everything else. My mom’s cancer is a real problem. I used to be so anxious about daily ups and downs. I give all of my worry, stress, and prayers to real problems now.”

Andrea Swift Was Previously Diagnosed with Cancer In April 2015

Swift credits her mother with helping shape her music career. As she recounted in a 2008 interview, Andrea would drive her to Nashville concerts when she was a girl, so that she could hand out cassette tapes of her songs. “My mom waited in the car with my little brother while I knocked on doors up and down Music Row,” Swift recalled. “I would say, ‘Hi, I’m Taylor. I’m 11; I want a record deal. Call me.”‘

Andrea also talked about her daughter and how her commitment to music always impressed her. “At 12, she saw a 12-string guitar and thought it was the coolest thing. And of course we immediately said, ‘Oh no, absolutely not, your fingers are too small—not till you’re much older will you be able to play the 12-string guitar’,” she revealed. “Well, that was all it took. Don’t ever say never or can’t do to Taylor. She started playing it four hours a day—six on the weekends. She would get calluses on her fingers and they would crack and bleed, and we would tape them up and she’d just keep on playing.”

When asked about her daughter’s success, Andrea said that she’s most proud of the fact that she’s doing what she loves. “For her, the happiest I ever see her is just after she’s written a killer song. As a parent, I felt really good about that,” she explained. “If that’s where she draws happiness from, she’ll have that the rest of her life. She’s not always gonna have the awards, or the attention, or the celebrity, but she will always have the ability to write a song.”

I Forgot That You Existed: The Song Meaning, Lyrics, & Easter Eggs

Taylor Swift’s I Forgot That You Existed is the first track on her seventh studio album, Lover.  The jazzy breakup song talks about an ex-lover or ex-friend living “free rent” in her mind.

The song is all about finally getting over the lover that has been taking up space in your mind for far too long. “It isn’t hate, it isn’t love, it’s indifference,” Swift croons. Of course, the song has every fan wondering which of her exes, exactly, she’s talking about — and most people have their money on DJ Calvin Harris.

Here’s what you need to know:

I Forgot That You Existed Lyrics: ‘Free Rent, Living in My Mind’

The lyrics to I Forgot That You Existed read in full, per Genius:

[Verse 1]
How many days did I spend thinking
‘Bout how you did me wrong, wrong, wrong?
Lived in the shade you were throwing
‘Til all of my sunshine was gone, gone, gone
And I couldn’t get away from ya
In my feelings more than Drake, so yeah
Your name on my lips, tounge-tied
Free rent, living in my mind

[Pre-Chorus]
But then something happened one magical night

[Chorus]
I forgot that you existed
And I thought that it would kill me, but it didn’t
And it was so nice
So peaceful and quiet
I forgot that you existed
It isn’t love, it isn’t hate, it’s just indifference
I forgot that you

[Verse 2]
Got out some popcorn
As soon as my rep started going down, down, down
Laughed on the school yard
As soon as I tripped up and hit the ground, ground, ground
And I would’ve stuck around for ya
Would’ve fought the whole town, so yeah
Would’ve been right there, front row
Even if nobody came to your show

[Pre-Chorus]
But you showed who you are, then one magical night

[Chorus]
I forgot that you existed
And I thought that it would kill me, but it didn’t
And it was so nice
So peaceful and quiet
I forgot that you existed
It isn’t love, it isn’t hate, it’s just indifference
I forgot that you

[Bridge]
Sent me a clear message
Taught me some hard lessons

I just forget what they were
It’s all just a blur

[Chorus]
I forgot that you existed
And I thought that it would kill me, but it didn’t
And it was so nice
So peaceful and quiet
I forgot that you existed
I did, I did, I did
It isn’t hate, it’s just indifference
It isn’t love, it isn’t hate, it’s just indifference
So, yeah

Song Meaning, Easter Eggs, & Fan Theories

I Forgot That You Existed could either be about an ex-lover or about an ex-friend who no longer matters in Swift’s life. Swift did like a fan’s Tumblr post about the song that reads, “I cannot wait to gift this on iTunes to the dickhead who broke my heart.”

Another fan has suggested the song is about ex-flame Calvin Harris. They wrote, “she literally didn’t write one song about calvin and then went ya know what i’ll give you one and named it I forgot that you existed”

Some of the lyrics of the song could hint at Harris being the subject:

“Would’ve been right there, front row
Even if nobody came to your show”

What’s more, she seems to reference the moment when Harris went on a Twitter rant against Swift, seemingly siding with Kim and Kanye over his ex, in the following lyrics:

“Got out some popcorn
As soon as my rep started going down, down, down
Laughed on the school yard
As soon as I tripped up and hit the ground, ground, ground”

Another noticed that in Swift’s famous Instagram with five fence holes, she’s wearing a shirt with the flower forget-me-nots as a design. The fan wrote, “y’all, she’s wearing a t-shirt with forget me nots on it, and she has a song….. called i forgot that you existed. IT WAS AN EASTER EGG ALL ALONG”

Taylor Swift’s Soon You’ll Get Better is the twelfth song on her seventh studio album, titled Lover. It features the Dixie Chicks and is all about her mother Andrea’s battle with cancer.

During a YouTube livestream with fans on August 22, Swift confirmed the song’s meaning. She said the song was “really, really hard to write,” and even noted that it was a “family decision” to decide whether or not to put the song on the album. Swift went on to say that she wasn’t able to sing it live yet, due to the personal nature of the track.

She said, “We as a family decided to put this on the album…it’s something that I am so proud of.”

Soon You’ll Get Better is one of the eight songs that included Jack Antonoff in its credits. Here’s what you need to know:

Soon You’ll Get Better Lyrics:  ‘I Just Pretend it Isn’t Real’

Here are the full lyrics to Soon You’ll Get Better, via Genius:

[Verse 1: Taylor Swift]
The buttons of my coat were tangled in my hair
In doctor’s office lighting, I didn’t tell you I was scared
That was the first time we were there
Holy orange bottles, each night, I pray to you
Desperate people find faith, so now I pray to Jesus too
And I say to you…

[Chorus: Taylor Swift & Dixie Chicks]
Ooh-ah
Soon, you’ll get better
Ooh-ah
Soon, you’ll get better
Ooh-ah
You’ll get better soon
‘Cause you have to

[Verse 2: Taylor Swift]
I know delusion when I see it in the mirror
You like the nicer nurses, you make the best of a bad deal
I just pretend it isn’t real
I’ll paint the kitchen neon, I’ll brighten up the sky
I know I’ll never get it, there’s not a day that I won’t try
And I say to you…

[Chorus: Taylor Swift & Dixie Chicks]
Ooh-ah
Soon, you’ll get better
Ooh-ah
Soon, you’ll get better
Ooh-ah
You’ll get better soon
‘Cause you have to

[Bridge: Taylor Swift & Dixie Chicks]
And I hate to make this all about me
But who am I supposed to talk to?
What am I supposed to do
If there’s no you?

[Pre-Chorus: Taylor Swift]
This won’t go back to normal, if it ever was
It’s been years of hoping, and I keep saying it because
‘Cause I have to

[Chorus: Taylor Swift & Dixie Chicks]
Ooh-ah
You’ll get better
Ooh-ah
Soon, you’ll get better
Ooh-ah
You’ll get better soon
Ooh-ah
Soon, you’ll get better
Ooh-ah
Soon, you’ll get better
Ooh-ah
You’ll get better soon
‘Cause you have to

Fans React to Soon You’ll Get Better

Fans were quick to note that the two songs Swift has written about her mother (The Best Day, and Soon You’ll Get Better) were both track twelve on their respective albums. Beyond that, there don’t appear to be many hidden clues or Easter eggs in the ballad, which is a blunt and mournful ode to Swift’s mother.

The only real Easter egg dedicated to the song has to do with the music video for ME!, where a framed photo of the Dixie Chicks was seen in the background.

One fan wrote, “Soon You’ll Get Better wrecked me. The simplicity of ‘soon you’ll get better, you’ll get better soon, cause you have to’ is sheer desperation, and I am floored.”

Multiple fans who claim to have attended the Secret Sessions said that Swift was so emotional during the playing of Soon You’ll Get Better that she had to leave the room.

One fan wrote, “‘soon you’ll get better’ just broke my heart.”

Another wrote, “soon you’ll get better is like the sad sequel to the best day it’s like when you’re young and you think how your parents are there and everything’s ok but you grow up and they get older and you realize they won’t be with you forever and it’s a crude reality and i hate it”

Death by a Thousand Cuts: Song Meaning, Lyrics, & Easter Eggs

$

Death by a Thousand Cuts is the tenth track on Taylor Swift’s Lover album. The song is about the challenge of getting over a lover, and references a form of torture in ancient China where a prisoner would slowly bleed to death from thousands of small cuts.

Even before the song released to the public, it was a fan favorite in Secret Sessions. One fan wrote, “I read something from a secret sessioner that Taylor had to leave the room when they played track 10 because it was so emotional for her. This is ‘Death by a Thousand Cuts’. I am so curious to hear this track.”

Even though Death by a Thousand Cuts covers relatively dark subject matter, the music itself follows in the vein of the rest of the album: light, catchy, almost whimsical.

Here’s what you need to know:

Death by a Thousand Cuts Full Lyrics: ‘I get Drunk, but it’s not Enough’

Here are the full lyrics to Death by a Thousand Cuts, per Genius:

[Intro]
My, my, my, my
My, my, my, my
My, my, my, my
My, my, my, my
My, my, my, my
My, my, my, my
My, my, my, my
My, my, my, my

[Chorus]
Saying goodbye is death by a thousand cuts
Flashbacks waking me up
I get drunk, but it’s not enough
’Cause the morning comes and you’re not my baby
I look through the windows of this love
Even though we boarded them up
Chandelier still flickering here
‘Cause I can’t pretend it’s okay when it’s not
It’s death by a thousand cuts

[Verse 1]
I dress to kill my time, I take the long way home
I ask the traffic lights if it’ll be alright
They say, “I don’t know”
And what once was ours is no one’s now
I see you everywhere, the only thing we share
Is this small town

You said it was a great love, one for the ages
But if the story’s over, why am I still writing pages?

[Chorus]
Saying goodbye is death by a thousand cuts
Flashbacks waking me up
I get drunk, but it’s not enough
’Cause the morning comes and you’re not my baby
I look through the windows of this love
Even though we boarded them up
Chandelier still flickering here
’Cause I can’t pretend it’s okay when it’s not
It’s death by a thousand cuts

[Verse 2]
My heart, my hips, my body, my love
Tryna find a part of me that you didn’t touch
Gave up on me like I was a bad drug
Now I’m searching for signs in a haunted club
Our songs, our films, united, we stand
Our country, guess it was a lawless land
Why are my fears at the touch of your hands?
Paper cut stains from my paper-thin plans
My time, my wine, my spirit, my trust
Tryna find a part of me you didn’t take up
Gave you so much, but it wasn’t enough
But I’ll be alright, it’s just a thousand cuts

[Chorus]
I get drunk, but it’s not enough
‘Cause you’re not my baby
I look through the windows of this love
Even though we boarded them up
Chandelier still flickering here
‘Cause I can’t pretend it’s okay when it’s not
No, it’s not
It’s death by a thousand cuts (You didn’t touch)

[Post-Chorus]
Tryna find a part of me that you didn’t touch
My body, my love, my trust (It’s death by a thousand cuts)
But it wasn’t enough, it wasn’t enough, no, no

[Outro]
I take the long way home
I ask the traffic lights if it’ll be alright
They say, “I don’t know”

Death by a Thousand Cuts: Song Meaning & Easter Eggs

Death by a Thousand Cuts seems to be about the challenge of being apart from or breaking up with a lover. However, it also offers several callbacks to an older song of Swift’s called Mary’s Song. Between the repeated “my my my” lyrics, and the references to a small town, fans have spotted the connection.

This song definitely doesn’t seem to be about Alwyn, who Swift is still dating — but it does make reference to certain images Swift has used in songs for Alwyn in the past. For example, Swift talks about a lover helping to board up a house before a storm with her in the song Call it What You Want, from the Reputation album.

One fan wrote, “@taylorswift13 writing ‘Death By a Thousand Cuts’ about getting paper cuts writing pages of a love story that’s ended… Holy shit.”

Another wrote, “ok death by a thousand cuts has me all the way f*cked up”

London Boy by Taylor Swift: Song Meaning, Lyrics, & Easter Eggs

$

London Boy is a song on Taylor Swift’s Lover album. It’s undeniably about her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn.

At first glance, the song appears to actually have Alwyn’s voice in the beginning, which is no doubt shocking news for Swifties all over the world, given how private the famous couple have been in the last three years. However, one fan showed that the line seems to have come from an interview with Idris Elba, in truth:

Elba says in the beginning: “We can go driving in, on my scooter…Uh, you know, just riding in London..Alright, yeah”

Here’s what you need to know:

London Boy  Full Lyrics: ‘You Know I Love a London Boy’

[Intro]
We can go driving in, on my scooter
Uh, you know, just riding in London
Alright, yeah

[Verse 1]
I love my hometown as much as Motown, I love SoCal
And you know I love Springsteen, faded blue jeans, Tennessee whiskey
But something happened, I heard him laughing
I saw the dimples first and then I heard the accent
They say home is where the heart is
But that’s not where mine lives

[Chorus]
You know I love a London boy
I enjoy walking Camden Market in the afternoon
He likes my American smile, like a child when our eyes meet
Darling, I fancy you
Took me back to Highgate, met all of his best mates
So I guess all the rumors are true
You know I love a London boy
Boy, I fancy you (Ooh)

[Verse 2]
And now I love high tea, stories from Uni, and the West End
You can find me in the pub, we are watching rugby with his school friends
Show me a gray sky, a rainy cab ride
Babe, don’t threaten me with a good time
They say home is where the heart is
But God, I love the English

[Chorus]
You know I love a London boy, I enjoy nights in Brixton
Shoreditch in the afternoon
He likes my American smile, like a child when our eyes meet
Darling, I fancy you
Took me back to Highgate, met all of his best mates
So I guess all the rumors are true
You know I love a London boy
Boy, I fancy you

[Bridge]
So please show me Hackney
Doesn’t have to be Louis V up on Bond Street
Just wanna be with you
Wanna be with you
Stick with me, I’m your queen
Like a Tennessee Stella McCartney
, I’m the heat
Just wanna be with you (Wanna be with you)
Wanna be with you (Oh)

[Chorus]
You know I love a London boy, I enjoy walking SoHo
Drinking in the afternoon (Yeah)
He likes my American smile, like a child when our eyes meet
Darling, I fancy you (You)
Took me back to Highgate, met all of his best mates
So I guess all the rumors are true (Yeah)
You know I love a London boy (Oh)
Boy (Oh), I fancy you (I fancy you, ooh)

London Boy Song Meaning & Easter Eggs

It doesn’t take a detective to figure out what this song is about. In fact, this might be the most explicit Alwyn-focused song Swift has made yet. In fact, she seems to directly address the speculation around their relationship, singing at one point, “So I guess all the rumors are true (Yeah)
You know I love a London boy (Oh)”

Of course, some fans are willing to speculate whether Swift is referencing Harry Styles or Tom Hiddleston, both of whom are British and have been linked romantically to Swift in the past. But this song is too present-tense to be about either of them.

Swift gets specific in this track, referencing locations like Shoreditch and Highgate, and crooning that her lover “likes my American smile.”

One fan wrote of the tune, “I can’t wait to get drunk off my *ss at the Lover Tour and slut drop to London Boy.”

Another wrote, “I think London Boy is my favorite on Lover. Feels like it’s written like a country song buts it’s all dressed up like a pop song. Super cool.”

Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince: Song Meaning & Easter Eggs

Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince is the seventh track on Taylor Swift’s Lover album.

The song is a dreamy ode to love, in a fashion that Lana Del Rey might be proud of. Others have said it’s a song reminiscent of something the singer Halsey might pull off. Specifically, a callback to Halsey’s New Americana. As for Del Rey, this song is reminiscent of a number of her tracks: Video Games and National Anthem come to mind.

The song mixes prom vibes with old school Americana vibes with a new age love story. One fan tweeted, “Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince is highkey the bop I wasn’t expecting. Halsey energy.”

Than I was at 16, lost in a film scene
Waving homecoming queens, marching band playing
I’m lost in the lights
American glory faded before me
Now I’m feeling hopeless, ripped up my prom dress
Running through rose thorns, I saw the scoreboard
And ran for my life (Ah)

[Pre-Chorus]
No cameras catch my pageant smile
I counted days, I counted miles
To see you there, to see you there
It’s been a long time coming, but

[Chorus]
It’s you and me, that’s my whole world
They whisper in the hallway, “She’s a bad, bad girl” (Okay)
The whole school is rolling fake dice
You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes
It’s you and me, there’s nothing like this
Miss Americana and The Heartbreak Prince (Okay)
We’re so sad, we paint the town blue
Voted most likely to run away with you

[Verse 2]
My team is losing, battered and bruising
I see the high fives between the bad guys
Leave with my head hung, you are the only one
Who seems to care
American stories burning before me
I’m feeling helpless, the damsels are depressed
Boys will be boys then, where are the wise men?
Darling, I’m scared (Ah)

[Pre-Chorus 2]
No cameras catch my muffled cries
I counted days, I counted miles
To see you there, to see you there
And now the storm is coming, but

Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince: Song Meaning & Easter Eggs

This song is one of Swift’s more cryptic tracks on the Lover album. It references several aspects of high school, like senior superlatives (“most likely to run away with you”) and whispering in the hallway.

But the song also seems to implicitly talk about Swift’s experience with fame from a young age. For example, when she sings, “…I was at 16, lost in a film scene”

Plenty of aspects of this track seem to call back to the Kim/Kanye drama that defined the Reputation era. Consider the following lyrics:

“I see the high fives between the bad guys
Leave with my head hung, you are the only one
Who seems to care
American stories burning before me”

Another set of lyrics seem to directly address the decision Swift made to “run away” with Alwyn, when she went largely undercover for upwards of a year prior to her Reputation album:

“It’s you and me, there’s nothing like this
Miss Americana and The Heartbreak Prince (Okay)
We’re so sad, we paint the town blue
Voted most likely to run away with you”

So in that way, the song is also an ode to Alwyn, it seems, for being the “heartbreak prince.” And even though the song touches on darker notes, it’s reminiscent of some of her earlier songs: Long Live, for example, or You Belong With Me.

False God: Song Meaning, Lyrics, & Easter Eggs

False God is the thirteenth song on Taylor Swift’s Lover album. It might just be the jazziest, breathiest track Swift has ever released.

One fan summed up their surprise at the sultry vibe of False God, in an album otherwise comprised of very expected Swiftian vibes: “False God is hella sexual and kinky woah okay I didn’t expect that #Lover #LoverOutNow

False God is about sex, love, and New York City.

Here’s what you need to know:

False God  Full Lyrics: ‘The Altar Is My Hips’

Here are the full lyrics to False God, per Genius:

[Verse 1]
We were crazy to think
Crazy to think that this could work
Remember how I said I’d die for you?
We were stupid to jump
In the ocean separating us
Remember how I’d lie to you?

[Pre-Chorus]
And I can’t talk to you when you’re like this
Staring out the window like I’m not your favorite town
I’m New York City
, I’d still do it for you, babe
They all warned us about times like this
They say the road gets hard and you get lost
When you’re led by blind faith, blind faith

[Chorus]
But we might just get away with it
Religion’s in your lips
Even if it’s a false god
We’d still worship
We might just get away with it
The altar is my hips
Even if it’s a false god
We’d still worship this love
We’d still worship this love
We’d still worship this love

[Verse 2]
I know heaven’s a thing
I go there when you touch me, honey
Hell is when I fight with you
But we can patch it up good
Make confessions and we’re begging for forgiveness
Got the wine for you

[Pre-Chorus]
And you can’t talk to me when I’m like this
Daring you to leave me just so I can try and scare you
You’re the West Village
You still do it for me, babe
They all warned us about times like this
They say the road gets hard and you get lost
When you’re led by blind faith, blind faith

[Chorus]
But we might just get away with it
Religion’s in your lips
Even if it’s a false god
We’d still worship
We might just get away with it
The altar is my hips
Even if it’s a false god
We’d still worship this love
We’d still worship this love
We’d still worship this love, ah

[Outro]
Still worship this love
Even if it’s a false god
Even if it’s a false god
Still worship this love

False God: Song Meaning & Easter Eggs

Even though so much of the song’s musical tone and cadence is a totally new experiment for Swift, much of which she talks about lyrically is standard. There are the references to New York City, particularly the West Village, which seem boilerplate at this point in Swift’s career, not to mention the whole topic of arguing with a lover then making up with them. Classic Swift.

What isn’t classic Swift are the overt references to sex (“the altar is my hips”; “I go there when you touch me, honey”), which might surprise some Swifties.

As for the actual meaning of the song, this is one of the more cryptic tracks on the album. Is Swift saying that her sexual chemistry is a “false god,” or that it’s a love worthy of “worship”? Is the “blind faith” that she references able to create a sustainable relationship?

So many of the lyrics seem to allude to an unstable or even volatile relationship, which is far from the kind of romance Swift has described in her songs about Alwyn up until now. Of course, the song could just be a cheeky nod to their sex life. Or it could be somewhere in between. Swift’s leaving it up to the fans to decide.

Daylight: Song Meaning, Lyrics, & Hidden Easter Eggs

Daylight is the final song on Taylor Swift’s Lover album. It’s also the alternate name for the seventh studio album, as Swift revealed during a YouTube live lounge in the hours leading up to the album’s release.

Though Daylight is the last track on the album, it might be the most romantic and profound song of all eighteen tracks. Throughout the song, Swift compares her new relationship to coming up for daylight after “sleeping so long in a twenty year dark night.”

The song ends with an uplifting surprise memo by Swift:

“I wanna be defined by the things that I love
Not the things I hate
Not the things that I’m afraid of, I’m afraid of
Not the things that haunt me in the middle of the night
I, I just think that
You are what you love”

Here’s what you need to know:

Daylight Full Lyrics: ‘I Only See Daylight’

Here are the full lyrics to Daylight, per Genius:

[Verse 1]
My love was as cruel as the cities I lived in
Everyone looked worse in the light
There are so many lines that I’ve crossed unforgiven
I’ll tell you the truth, but never goodbye

[Chorus]
I don’t wanna look at anything else now that I saw you
I don’t wanna think of anything else now that I thought of you
I’ve been sleeping so long in a 20-year dark night
And now I see daylight, I only see daylight

[Verse 2]
Luck of the draw only draws the unlucky
And so I became the butt of the joke
I wounded the good and I trusted the wicked
Clearing the air, I breathed in the smoke
Maybe you ran with the wolves and refused to settle down
Maybe I’ve stormed out of every single room in this town
Threw out our cloaks and our daggers because it’s morning now
It’s brighter now, now

[Chorus]
I don’t wanna look at anything else now that I saw you
(I can never look away)
I don’t wanna think of anything else now that I thought of you
(Things will never be the same)
I’ve been sleeping so long in a 20-year dark night
(Now I’m wide awake)
And now I see daylight (Daylight), I only see daylight (Daylight)
I only see daylight, daylight, daylight, daylight
I only see daylight, daylight, daylight, daylight

[Bridge]
And I can still see it all (In my mind)
All of you, all of me (Intertwined)
I once believed love would be (Black and white)
But it’s golden (Golden)
And I can still see it all (In my head)
Back and forth from New York (Singing in your bed)
I once believed love would be (Burning red)
But it’s golden
Like daylight, like daylight
Like daylight, daylight

[Chorus]
I don’t wanna look at anything else now that I saw you
(I can never look away)
I don’t wanna think of anything else now that I thought of you
(Things will never be the same)
I’ve been sleeping so long in a 20-year dark night
(Now I’m wide awake)
And now I see daylight (I see daylight), I only see daylight (Ah)
I only see daylight, daylight, daylight, daylight
I only see daylight, daylight, daylight, daylight (Ah)
(And I can still see it all)
I only see daylight, daylight, daylight, daylight
(And I can still see it all, back and forth from New York)
I only see daylight, daylight, daylight, daylight
(I once believed love would be)

[Outro]
Like daylight
It’s golden like daylight
You gotta step into the daylight and let it go
Just let it go, let it go
I wanna be defined by the things that I love
Not the things I hate
Not the things that I’m afraid of, I’m afraid of
Not the things that haunt me in the middle of the night
I, I just think that
You are what you love

Daylight Song Meaning & Hidden Easter Eggs

Daylight is a song of redemption and romance. Swift sings about coming out of a “20 year dark night” that she was stuck in. She also talks about enduring “loves as cruel as the cities she lived in.”

There are many references to Alwyn in the song. For example, she talks about flying back and forth between London and New York City: “Back and forth from New York (Singing in your bed)”

She also seems to reference a “golden” love. However, that also appears to be a callback to something Swift wrote in the Red album: “Realizing that real love shines golden like starlight…”

Now, three albums later, Swift reiterates that truth in Daylight: “I once believed that love would be burning red but it’s golden.”

Afterglow: Song Meaning, Lyrics, & Easter Eggs

Afterglow is the fifteenth song on Taylor Swift’s Lover album. It covers a particularly moving and seemingly personal fear of Swift’s: that she’s creating fights in her head and accidentally “burning down” her relationship, then fighting to keep it together.

Swift has been increasingly candid about her own insecurities and emotions in this latest album, referencing herself as “overdramatic and true” in Lover and lamenting in Afterglow, “Why’d I have to break what I love so much?”

Swift notably spelled out “After Glow” on a Scrabble board in the Lover music video.

Here’s what you need to know:

Afterglow  Full Lyrics: ‘Meet Me in the Afterglow’

Here are the full lyrics for Afterglow, per Genius:

[Verse 1]
I blew things out of proportion, now you’re blue
Put you in jail for something you didn’t do
I pinned your hands behind your back, oh
Thought I had reason to attack, but no

[Pre-Chorus 1]
Fighting with a true love is boxing with no gloves
Chemistry ’til it blows up, ’til there’s no us
Why’d I have to break what I love so much?
It’s on your face, and I’m to blame, I need to say

[Chorus]
Hey, it’s all me, in my head
I’m the one who burned us down
But it’s not what I meant
Sorry that I hurt you
I don’t wanna do, I don’t wanna do this to you (Ooh)
I don’t wanna lose, I don’t wanna lose this with you (Ooh)
I need to say, hey, it’s all me, just don’t go
Meet me in the afterglow

[Verse 2]
It’s so excruciating to see you low
Just wanna lift you up and not let you go
This ultraviolet morning light below
Tells me this love is worth the fight, oh

[Pre-Chorus 2]
I lived like an island, punished you in silence
Went off like sirens, just crying
Why’d I have to break what I love so much?
It’s on your face, don’t walk away, I need to say

[Chorus]
Hey, it’s all me, in my head
I’m the one who burned us down
But it’s not what I meant
Sorry that I hurt you
I don’t wanna do, I don’t wanna do this to you (Ooh)
I don’t wanna lose, I don’t wanna lose this with you (Ooh)
I need to say, hey, it’s all me, just don’t go
Meet me in the afterglow

[Bridge]
Tell me that you’re still mine
Tell me that we’ll be just fine
Even when I lose my mind
I need to say
Tell me that it’s not my fault
Tell me that I’m all you want
Even when I break your heart
I need to say

Afterglow Song Meaning & Hidden Easter Eggs

Throughout Lover, Swift openly wrestles with the challenges of being in an intense relationship. She wonders aloud if other people are falling in love with her lover (presumably Alwyn) in Lover. And in Afterglow, she is perhaps the most vulnerable she’s ever been on a song, singing, “Tell me I’m all you want/ even when I break your heart”

The song is especially meaningful after so many albums’ worth of music dedicated to condemning the actions of exes. To be fair, much of that narrative reeks of sexist undertones — but this is certainly the first track in seven albums’ worth of Swift music where she so explicitly and fully takes blame for a catastrophe in a relationship, not to mention the first track where she mentions fights being “in her head” and admits “it’s all me.”

Expectedly, fans have been swooning for Afterglow. One fan wrote, “i really love afterglow wow”

Another fan noted, “Putting #Afterglow right before #Me! Makes so much sense lyrically and I love that.”
